In late 2021, YouTuber PointCrow presented a challenge to the modding community: create a multiplayer mod for the popular game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and receive a cash reward of $10,000 upon completion. After a year and a half of hard work, the small team of modders was able to not only meet PointCrow’s challenge but also deliver a fully functioning mod for a wide range of players.

Featuring support for up to 32 players, the mod allows for a variety of custom game modes, with players able to share progress, compete and explore Hyrule together. As a show of thanks for his support throughout the project, PointCrow donated additional funds in addition to the initial 10K bounty.

The mod is remarkable in its synchronization capabilities, ranging from player location, weather, and time of day, to enemy health and completion of discovered towers and shrines. Despite some key features still missing, such as enemy AI, the modders did what seemed impossible.

To get the mod up and running, a complex installation process is required, passing through the Wii U emulator Cemu, game patching, and online connection setup. Fortunately, servers have been spun up, which allows players to join without needing to host their own machine.

In conclusion, the successful completion of this mod is a testament to the hard work of the modders, with the mod's lead moderator, AlexMangue, credit to PointCrow for his continued support and creative contributions throughout the project. With the mod now available on Discord, players can finally enjoy the thrill of playing with 32 people in Breath of the Wild.
