In the dynamic world of social media apps, Threads' journey from being a formidable rival to Twitter to battling a decline in popularity within just three weeks has been startling. According to data aggregation and software firm Similarweb, there has been a dramatic plunge of nearly 80 percent in Threads' daily user numbers, posing a significant challenge to the new social app.

The data released by Similarweb reveals a steep fall in the number of daily active users on Android mobile devices, which has plummeted from 49 million to a mere 11 million. It is important to note that these figures do not include user statistics for Apple's iOS mobile platform. Threads experienced a significant surge in global Android users immediately following its launch by Meta on July 5th. The number of users skyrocketed from 6 million to 41 million in one day and further soared to reach a peak of almost 50 million on July 7th.

This was equivalent to about 45 percent of Twitter's usage on that specific day, marking an impressive start for the new app.

However, the drastic slide in daily user numbers in such a short period raises concerns about the future of Threads. The app's initial popularity suggested a potential challenge to established social media platforms like Twitter. But the dramatic downturn in user numbers may indicate that Threads has not been able to sustain its initial momentum.

The reasons for this decline are yet to be fully understood, and the future of the app remains uncertain. We'd love to hear from you. What do you think about the rapid rise and fall of Threads? Do you believe it has the potential to recover and pose a significant challenge to established social media platforms in the future? Please leave a comment below with your thoughts.
