Google offers several ways on how to verify a user. Now you can choose from voice and text messages, the authenticator app, prompts, and backup codes. It’s already a large list to explore, but the company decided to add one more 2-step verification instrument. Now you can confirm your identity with Google Chrome on Android.

Such a method to add a new device somewhat differs from the existing ones. First of all, it uses GPS to see the nearby gadgets that aim to get access to your account. So, Google Chrome will ask you whether you attempt to log in. This question will appear on your phone.

That means your gadgets should be nearby when you want to sign in to Google. In most cases, it is easy to do. However, there are situations when the device is far away. Someone else can also try to get access to your account, so you need high protection for sure. That’s why you should indicate your password as an additional step of the verification.

This instrument is only being tested, and there are not so many reviews on how it actually works. 9to5Chrome added this feature to Chrome 93 beta and Chrome 92 on macOS. When trying to log in on your laptop, you will get a similar message on your phone as Google prompt. However, it will actually appear in Google Chrome, not Google Play Services.

If you want to turn on a two-step verification feature on your phone, open your Google account. Then select “Security” on the navigation panel. Here you will find 2-step verification under “Signing in to Google.” Press “Get Started” and follow the instructions.

For the 2-step verification, you need a phone and a password for your Google account. Now, you can use Google Chrome to recognize the nearby devices and make this process a little bit easier and more protected.
