One of the most impressive things about Clubhouse has been the impossibility to communicate in text. This time is gone. In addition to private text chats that every social media comes to sooner or later, now it introduces open room chats where messages are for everyone.

After the initial hype and later user outflux, Clubhouse has stabilized its position as a niche but the irreplaceable type of social media. Rooms introduced by other media did not move it from phones and tablets, but certainly pushed it to evolve. After introducing private chats in July 2022, now Clubhouse is to introduce public chats in the rooms.

These chats look quite straightforward as for 2022. They only feature a stream of text messages, showing the name of the sender and the time it was sent. The content of the message is plain text, without any media or formatting. But given its potential use cases, it may be useful just the way it is.

For example, if you are giving an online interview, you can react to the questions the audience asks and reply to them in real-time. The same applies to office meetings for which Clubhouse becomes now a more friendly space. Finally, literally, any type of audio conversation can benefit if others write their remarks for everyone to see instead of interrupting the current speaker.

Senders can delete their messages at any time during the session or after it ends. Mods can do the same, deleting the replies they find irrelevant, offensive, or already addressed. Though it ruins the initial audio-only experience of Clubhouse, at the end of the day introduction of in-room chats can grant new niches for Clubhouse.

Do you use Clubhouse still? How do you think the in-room chats will influence the communication in here? Do you have any stage fright that could be overcome by texting instead of speaking? You cannot speak to us in the comments, but yes you can type it.
