Is Fortnite Coming Back to the App Store?

While Epic wants to bring Fortnite back to the iOS fans, Apple frowns on the idea. Fortnite, which recently saw a terrific Chapter 2 update, is still unavailable to iOS users. At least, its new events are locked for them, as Apple blocks updates. Epic is in no position to release an independent update, as iOS is proprietary software, unlike Android.

Lately, some countries began voicing concerns over the Google/Apple duo monopolizing the in-app purchases. South Korea is one of the first states to roll out legislation, which is going to force the App Store to accept alternative payment methods.

The Korean bill, which is yet to pass, implies that mobile developers can offer their own e-pay options. This initiative can greatly undermine Apple’s monopoly. Epic Games immediately requested their developer’s account to be brought back from oblivion on the App Store. The request was ignored.

The reason why this feud began in the first place was that Epic wasn’t happy about these two app vendors “confiscating” almost 30% of all the in-app revenue, compared to the 2.5% commission charged by the likes of Visa. As a result, item prices in games are pretty atrocious at times. Epic Games released a whole manifesto titled Why We Fight, in which you can learn about their noble cause, as well as legal progress.

It’s too early for the iOS fortniters to celebrate, though. It seems the Cupertino’s giant took it personally, and the vendetta is still far from ending: “As we've said all along, we would welcome Epic's return to the App Store if they agree to play by the same rules as everyone else.”

However, there’s a bleak hope that Korean authorities might force Apple to restore Fortnite. According to legal logic, if having alternative payment options is okay, then no company can be banned merely for the sake of having them. Dura lex, sad lex. Who do you think is right in this confrontation? Let us know!
