OpenSea, one of the most prominent peer-to-peer marketplace platforms for selling NFT art, has rolled out its own smooth and slick mobile application for Android and iOS devices. It’ll become a nice addition to the already-existing beautiful and functional website. However, it appears that the new app’s capabilities have been severely crippled to only allow browsing through the platform’s gallery of cryptocurrency collectibles and digital items without selling or buying them.

Why Is Trading NFT Art Off Limits?

One of the reasons why NFT purchases are likely to have been disabled within the brand new app is that OpenSea does not want to share a hefty 30% cut of its NFT transactions with the App Store, Google Play, and the likes of these. It is also possible that in-app purchases are unavailable because OpenSea conducts most of its transactions in Ethereum – crypto that is currently not recognized as an acceptable payment method on either of the two major stores.

While advertised as a further attempt by the company to make NFTs more accessible to a wider global audience, the app currently provides its users with only a handful of browsing, search and filtering functions. Sure, you can connect to your OpenSea profile, share artwork listings, and manage the NFTs that are yours, but without the Buy Now option, the software is just one more way to marvel at your favorite JPEG pics.

Conclusion

OpenSea is in no hurry to answer whether its mobile users might one day be able to purchase digital items through its app. Hopefully, such plans are in place, and OpenSea will soon give all of us a mobile-friendly way to securely navigate the world of NFT artwork and make exciting purchases with crypto.
