Rumors of Roblox shutting down are nothing new on the Internet. This social gaming- platform is as popular as it is controversial, so rumors always follow Roblox. But is it going to shut down in 2022, as some rumors have it? The origin of these rumors is probably as incredible as their content.

Roblox, with millions of users, creators, and titles, is a heavyweight gaming monster. What could it be that’s able to sink such a dreadnought? What makes these rumors even a bit palatable now is a recent chain of scandals about Roblox. Namely, it’s the accusations of unfair exploitation of developers, unmoderated sexual abuse and bullying that reportedly flourishes on the platform, and stuff. This indeed might result in lawsuits going class actions that might undermine the corporation.

But not yet. As far as we know now, there are only single games on Roblox that shut down due to lack of revenue; the platform itself doesn’t suffer from such. The income Roblox generates is still solid, and expenses are acceptable. So what’s behind the rumors? The answer is anecdotic. The initial message was placed in 2020 on a parody news site react2424.com, from where it quickly spread. Given that the audience of Roblox is largely children and teens, they took the news very emotionally and started spreading it. As a result these rumors still circulate, though the original page was deleted long ago.

Fake news is often marked as such by third-party fact-checkers. But even when the publishers themselves position their materials as fake news, it doesn’t stop people from believing them. So, as Flavor Flav said, don’t believe the hype.

Have you believed this information for a moment? How do you tell real news from fakes? We’ll be thankful if you share your techniques in the comments. And yes, we can talk about Roblox too.
