Tinder Remains the World’s Most Popular Dating App

While it seems that many people like to hate on Tinder, statistics show that this app remains the most popular dating app by a large margin. Currently, Tinder holds 72% of the market share, with Bumble having 19% and Hinge having just 9%.

According to data compiled by the Sensor Tower, it will take many years for any app to reach the popularity of Tinder. Despite that, the market share of Tinder is slowly waning, which indicates that users no longer view it as the one and only dating app.

The competitors of Tinder seem to be rapidly growing with Hinge increasing its user base by a whopping +344% in the last 2 years. Bumble has also grown by 96% within the same period of time, almost doubling its userbase. The number of Tinder users, on the other hand, has remained fairly steady (-1%).

Overall, the popularity of dating apps continues to grow, with over 100 million new users joining the fold in 2021, which is 17% more new users than during the previous year.

The rapid growth of dating apps’ popularity can be attributed due to multiple restrictions caused by the pandemic. Since people were forced to stay at home, unable to go to café’s and gyms, they turned to dating apps to provide them with a chance to meet a person that they like. It remains to be seen, whether the popularity of dating apps continues to rapidly grow or will it slowly subside as people are gradually getting used to the pandemic.
